The Thanh longan was successfully hybridized by Ms. Tran Kieu (71 years old, also known as Thanh), the owner of a large ancient longan orchard in Giong Nhan A, Hiep Thanh Commune, Bac Lieu City. This new, famously delicious longan variety was named and grafted after Ms. Thanh, hence the name "Thanh longan." This is a newly popular longan variety grown widely in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. This variety is distinguished by its large fruits, thick flesh, small seeds, low moisture, and a characteristic mildly sweet taste.
